Do228 NG description
The Dornier 228-200 is a rugged and versatile utility aircraft. As a regional aircraft it seats a maximum of 19 passengers. Customized versions are flown by different government bodies of numerous countries. The aircraft is of high-wing configuration with two turboprop powerplants, retractable landing gear and unpressurized fuselage.
The Do 228-200 had its maiden flight on May 9th, 1981, and the German type certificate was granted Sept. 6th, 1982. When the line closed in 1998, a total of 246 aircraft of the Do 228 family had been built by Dornier. After the demise of Fairchild-Dornier in 2002, RUAG of Switzerland bought the 228 division, providing service and customer support in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany.
THE Do228 NG
In late 2007, RUAG has announced it would restart production of the 228 based on requests from operators. The 228 NG (New Generation) features a glass cockpit and more efficient 5-bladed propellers. The structure is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., and final assembly takes place in Oberpfaffenhofen. First flight took place on Nov. 5th, 2009 and the first aircraft was handed over to Japanese launch operator New Central Airservice on Sep. 23, 2010.
